Raipur, February 7
Retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Narayan Singh passed away late last night.
Having created a niche for himself for his austerity, simplicity and down-to-earth approach, Narayan Singh’s sudden demise had descended a pall of gloom not only in Chhattisgarh’s bureaucracy but across the state. The last rites would take place Saturday morning at 11 am as his daughter failed to land from Odisha following inclement weather in Chhattisgarh.
Narayan Singh was admitted to the hospital following a massive cardiac arrest three weeks ago. After recuperating, he was discharged two days ago. Last night, he complaint of severe breathing trouble and was rushed to a private hospital. Despite putting their best efforts, the doctors could not save the 1977-batch IAS officer.
Besides holding important positions as commissioner of Bastar and Bilaspur, he had served in different departments as secretary. In 2012, he was appointed as Chairman of the Board of Secondary Education. Narayan Singh could not succeed to the bureaucracy’s coveted position of Chief Secretary.
He was later appointed as Chairman of Chhattisgarh State Electricity Regulatory Commission. In 2018, he retired and settled in Raipur.
