IAS Association strongly condemned the incident of a woman Zila Panchayat member's misconduct with Mungeli Zila Panchayat CEO IAS Rohit Vyas. Association President Manoj Pingua said appropriate action in the case should be taken according to the rules to prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the future.

IAS Association called the incident unfortunate and condemnable. News are coming that some Association members are furious over the incident with their fellow IAS officer Rohit Vyas. They are pressuring the Association to call on an emergency meeting. An important meeting of IAS officers could be held over the issue in Mantralaya tomorrow, Friday. However, Manoj Pingua has expressed unawareness about the meeting. He accepted that officers are angry over the incident.

IAS Association members have brought the matter to the cognizance of Chief Secretary Amitabh Jain and Chief Minister's ACS Subrat Sahoo. Rohit Vyas had already informed CS and ACS to CM along with IAS Association President about the situation through Whatsapp message.

Sharp comments are flowing in the Whatsapp groups of the IAS Association. Many officers opined that such incidents would make it difficult to work.

It's to be recalled here that woman Zila Panchayat member Laila Nanku Bhikhari had come to 2017-Batch IAS Officer, Zila Panchayat CEO Rohit Vyas over some work at around 1.30 pm. IAS refused to do her work by calling it unreasonable, which sparked a verbal spat between the CEO and Zila Panchayat member.

According to the accounts of eyewitnesses at the Zila Panchayat office, Zila Panchayat member Nanku took out her slipper to beat the Zila Panchayat CEO. The officer realized the gravity of the situation as it was the case of a woman and there were no CCTV cameras in his chamber, so he ran outside the chamber, followed by the Zila Panchayat member armed with the slipper.

Soon after the incident, Nanku along with Zila Panchayat President and other members reached the Superintendent of Police (SP) Office to lodge a complaint that CEO had hurled casteist slurs and misbehaved with her. She also staged a protest at the SP office.

On the same day, the CEO also reached out to the SP office with a complaint against the Zila Panchayat woman member. Stunned by the incident, a delegation of the IAS Association was going to meet Chief Secretary over the issue, according to some unconfirmed reports. A disgruntled senior IAS officer angrily said such incidents will make it difficult to work.

It's important to note that the husband of the Zila Panchayat member is a contractor with the Zila Panchayat. A report of the incident was also lodged at SC/ST Police Station.
